The time is takes to change your life could be an instant or feel like an eternity. Depending on your focus, your motivations, or convictions you may change in some ways faster than others.
“They” say it takes a moment to make a decision that could change your life – possibly forever… and even making no decision is STILL a decision. We do this everyday in different ways. From things a simple as deciding to go to work in the morning, deciding to perform, deciding to keep our word about commitments we’ve made – or deciding not to.
At any instant we decide what we will/won’t do and who we will/won’t be…. even if we decide to do nothing or be still. But even in that, without the follow-on, aligned actions our decisions are merely thoughts.
- Making a decision to change something about ourselves requires actions to align our behavior
- Making a decision to change our environment requires actions to change our comfort zone
- Making a decision to change our thought process requires actions to stay focused
- Making a decision to change our careers requires actions to seek/create and take opportunities
- Making a decision to change our attitude requires actions to react/engage differently
“They” say it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, and 90 days to make it a lifestyle… I prefer to say “routine” over “lifestyle”. In my opinion, only a lifetime of habit is a lifestyle of choice.
Fitness immediately comes to mind. But this could apply to all types of things.
Habitual smoker, habitual procrastinator, habitual planner, habitual communicator, habitual (insert harmful adjective) or habitual (insert beneficial adjective) – whether you’re trying to embrace or break the habit… it’s going to take some time …. and consistency in changing your ways.
What habits are you trying to make – or break?
“They” say it takes half the time you were with someone to get over them. Not sure how universally true that is as we all have different ways of coping with breakups but when you’re in that space – whether pinning over then or fighting to fix things… only you know when enough is enough.
No matter your decision today, your habits at this moment, or your goals for tomorrow… your actions, focus, and conviction are what will guide your success.
The version of you tomorrow depends the version of you today. Don’t just tell yourself what you’re going to be, who you’re going to be… He/she is saying….
